The most effective solution for stable insulation free of convection and thermal bridges and with increased protection against fire, mould and rust. Usable in industrial plants, vessels, offshore or building construction.

1
Reduce your operating costs

Use the advantages of Vatral® 150/650 for new energy-saving solutions with considerably reduced insulation thicknesses.
Not only the required area reduces because of lower insulation thicknesses, but also the energy balance improves by a lower thermal radiation due to smaller surfaces.

1
Simple in the handling, safe and homogeneous

Combinations of our Vatral® 150/650 products allow a thin and thermal-bridge-free insulation. Thus hot spots are no longer a threat as a main source of danger.

Vatral® 150/650 mortar resembles a modelling clay which can be easily distributed and adjusted to different forms. Due to the easy handling of Vatral® 150/650 mortar even complex constructions can be insulated easily, fast and free of thermal bridges. Particularly in combination with Vatral® plates, pipe shells and moldings.

Variable, smokeproof – preventing rust and mould

Filling hollow space, compensating faults or irregularities, preventing convection:
These are our strengths.

1
HSMC-Vatral-150-650_6
1

Differences, which make the difference

1
High flow resistance
= low convection
= low thicknesses
of insulation layer
= low heat loss

(by reduced surfaces at the same surfaces temperature)

1

Even at high temperatures there is almost no convection in Vatral® 150/650 due to the production of flow resistances of 6000 kPa·s/m2. Vatral® 150/650 mortar and moldings are therefore ideally suitable for insulations, where draughts cannot be excluded completely on or behind the insulation.

1

Another advantage of the high flow resistances is the reduction of the risk of fire of insulants polluted with oil or other combustible substances. By minimization of the oxygen supply and a homogeneous, hot-spot-free insulation a spontaneous combustion or glowing as a result of contamination inside the material is prevented from the beginning.
Vatral® 150/650 is therefore the better solution for combustible applications like thermal oil and gas pipes compared to other insulation materials with low flow resistances.

1
Smoke-proof

Vatral® 150/650 is stable in the case of fire and prevents the gas flue even without an additional cover.

1
High temperature resistance

With a maximum service temperature of 900 °C according to DIN EN 14706 the first insulation with ceramic insulation layers is not necessary for most application areas.

1
High compressive strengths

Lower insulation thicknesses already result from thermal-bridge-free insulation by renounciation of supporting constructions for perhaps necessary metal covers.

1
Low and slow oil absorption

The high share of the closed-cell micro hollow spheres in Vatral® 150/650 reduces the speed of penetration of oils as well as the maximum oil absorption. Even at fire influence from outside the pollutions penetrated into Vatral® 150/650 only slowly take part in the fire on the surface. Fire-fighting operation is thereby made easier and shortened fundamentally.

1

By the high share of the closed-cell micro hollow spheres penetration of dust is not possible. There is no effect received to the insulation also in the long run.

1
Safe against rust and moulds

Cavities, irregularities or faults are difficult to fill with conventional insulation material without a rest of faults. Heat bridges are the consequence. The energy loss is not the only negative consequence. Heat bridges can allow the intrusion of condensation water which leads to mould and humidification of the components. The relatively high moisture resistance factor of 10 μ of Vatral® 105/650 in comparison to other insulation material supports the prevention of water vapour convection in addition.

New products make new solutions possible

Fast and easy in the renovation

Damages to insulations can be fixed quickly and simply with Vatral® 150/650 mortar any time.

Moreover, surfaces can be concealed in addition with fleeces, fabrics or aluminium foils as soon as the mortar has dried.

1

A cladding with Vatral® 200-soaked glass fabrics produces additionally a high-shock-resistance insulation by keeping the high fire resistance.
We offer corresponding foils, glass fabrics and adhesives in our assortment.

Vatral® SP System

Fire Protection System for Sprinkler and Fire Extinguishing Systems

Environmentally Friendly Fire Protection by Evaporation of Bound Water

The Vatral® SP system is the system for cladding dry and wet sprinkler pipelines, including their penetrations through solid structural elements. It differs from existing types of construction in terms of design as well as materials, installation and functioning. The Vatral® SP system is based on the non-combustible Vatral® SPM mortar and its development was oriented to plaster claddings made of mortars with vermiculite and perlite according to DIN 1993-1 2/NA:2010-12. Despite a reduction in the bulk density, the moisture plateau, which is decisive for fire resistance, was significantly extended.

The Vatral®SP system is a system for cladding of dry and wet sprinkler pipes including their feedthroughs through solid construction elements. It is different from existing types of construction in terms of design as well as materials, installation and mode of operation. The Vatral®SP system is based on the noncombustible mortar Vatral®SPM and its development was based on plaster claddings made of mortars with vermiculite and perlite according to DIN 1993-1-2/NA:2010-12.

We are addressing the issue of fire protection with new innovative products and constructive solutions. Vatral  mortars and their moldings can be used to create load-bearing fire protection systems free of thermal bridges.

All components of the system are tested as a whole and comply with fire class A1L/A1 according to DIN EN 13501-1:2019-05. Pipe shells, bends and mortar are made of the same material, which provides the entire system with homogeneous fire protection free of thermal bridges.

1

Functioning of the Vatral®SP System

The Vatral®SP system contains up to 18 % water bound in minerals. This water content is not unusual, but the minerals used in the Vatral®SP system release this water at an early stage and can thus ensure a temperature below 100 °C for a long period during fire exposure. The high water vapor diffusion resistance of the dried Vatral®SPM further supports this function, as does the scrim reinforced aluminum composite foil (Sd >1500) laminated with Vatral®210. This prevents rapid escape of the water vapor and initially leads to condensation of the water vapor within the system. The cooling function of the bound water in the insulation is thus extended over time. By keeping the temperature in the range of 100 °C, EPDM seals in pipe connectors are also effectively protected against failure.

1
1

Components of the VATRAL® SP System

1

Vatral® SPM MORTAR

Vatral®SPM is a high-temperature resistant mortar with fire-retardant properties for direct use as mortar or for the industrial production of molded parts such as slabs, pipe shells, bends, segments, etc. Vatral®SPM mortar develops its cooling function for passive fire protection already below 100 °C . Thus, the protection also works for seals, plastic pipes, etc. much longer than in conventional systems.

1

Vatral® SPS PIPE

Vatral®SPS pipe shells are industrially manufactured pipe shells/segments made of Vatral®SPM mortar laminated with special high temperature resistant scrim reinforced aluminum composite foil. Vatral®SPS pipe shell develops its cooling function for passive fire protection already below 100 °C. Thus, the protection also works for seals, plastic pipes, etc. much longer than in conventional systems.

1

Application Information

Vatral®SPS pipe shells are mounted directly on the pipe surface. At the butt joints, the moldings are bonded with Vatral®200 fire protection adhesive and covered with certoplast 727 SR Alu aluminum adhesive tape up to a maximum of 30% of the total surface. Joints to the wall and ceiling as well as “voids” are completely filled with Vatral®SPM mortar and then laminated with Vatral®210 system adhesive and with Walki®Wool Alnet G FF 30 aluminum foil. As a result, the Vatral®SP system has a continuously stable, washable surface and combines high fire protection quality with visual appeal. For additional protection, the Vatral®SPS pipe shells and Vatral®SPB pipe bends are wrapped with a galvanized winding wire (d = 0.6 – 0.65 mm) with 6 windings per meter.

1
1

Fire tests on fire extinguishing pipes tested at the MPA Dresden

Even after 120 minutes of fire exposure, cladding free of thermal bridges is maintained over the entire course of the pipe.

0.0 % shrinkage occurs at 1000 °C based on DIN 4102-17:2017-12

1
1

Straight pipe sections

Straight pipe sections are clad with Vatral®SPS pipe shells. The hinged shells are cut to length (if necessary) and bonded at the longitudinal and joints with Vatral®200 fire protection adhesive. The overlapping lamination of aluminum composite foil is glued with the assistance of the integrated double-sided adhesive tape and the joints with certoplast 727 SR Alu aluminum adhesive tape up to a maximum of 30 % of the total surface area.

1

Cladding of tightly laid pipelines

Cladding of tightly laid pipelines may cross each other or be laid parallel to each other, which means that complete cladding of each pipeline as an individual cladding is not possible. The Vatral® SPS pipe shells can be reduced on one side to form the cladding. Missing areas must be filled with Vatral® SPM mortar over the entire depth. As a result the specified insulation thickness must be ensured at each pipe.

If cable systems are attached to different components (walls and ceilings), opposing component movements can occur in the event of a fire. This can have a negative effect on the cladding. Concrete ceiling constructions and spans must be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. In the test setup, the construction with the ceiling-wall fastening has been safely demonstrated. Nevertheless, fastening on the same component is preferable. The mortar seal between the pipe shells must be sealed after drying with Vatral®210 system adhesive and the aluminum foil WALKI®Wool Alnet G FF 30. For this purpose, the foil is fully bonded with the entire surface of the film to be laminated with Vatral®210 system adhesive. This is necessary to achieve the same fire protection.

Pipe supports

VdS-approved wall brackets with pipe hangers can be used as pipe supports. The pipe is clad on both sides of the wall angle with Vatral®SPS pipe shells. The joint in the area of the support is completely filled with Vatral®SPM mortar. After drying, the filled area is laminated with Vatral®210 system adhesive and WALKI®Wool Alnet G FF 30 aluminum foil.

1

Pipe suspensions

Vatral® SPS pipe shells for cladding threaded rods are installed in the same way as shells for straight pipelines. The Vatral®SPS pipe shell is placed on the threaded socket of the clamp. The gap to the ceiling should not exceed 5 cm. The Vatral® SPS pipe shells of the pipeline are guided laterally up to the threaded rod cover. The resulting free spaces between Vatral® SPS pipe shell and ceiling as well as between the Vatral® SPS pipe shells are then filled with Vatral® SPM mortar. After drying, the filled areas are coated with Vatral® 210 system adhesive and WALKI® Wool Alnet G FF 30 aluminum foil.

Pipe bends

For some pipe bends, precisely fitting Vatral® SPB pipe bends can be used. These cover the bend area between the pipe connectors. The area of the joint is additionally covered with a 5 cm Vatral® SPS pipe shell for additional covering with an insulation thickness of 3 cm.

1

Pipe bends

Vatral® SPS outer shells are used for the cladding of other pipe bends. These are mitered and installed overlapping the bend area by 5 cm.

The area of the couplings and the bend is filled with Vatral® SPM mortar beforehand. The position of the screw connections therefore does not need to be taken into account.

1

Other shaped bodies

Molded bodies that cannot be clad with Vatral® SPS pipe shells are clad with Vatral® SPM mortar along the profile. The material thickness of the Vatral® SPS pipe shell must be adapted. After drying, the filled areas are laminated with aluminum composite foil, which is bonded with Vatral® 210 system adhesive. Couplers included in the construction must be covered with an additional Vatral® SPS overshell as previously described.

1

Feedthroughs through components

The feedthrough of steel, stainless steel and plastic pipes with a cladding of Vatral® SPS pipe shells were tested at the MPA Dresden on a room-enclosing component in solid construction. The test was carried out in accordance with DIN EN 1366-3:2009-07. 14 pipe penetration seals and an empty bulkhead made of Vatral® SPM mortar were tested. The test was carried out with a one-sided flame impingement (time „t„ ≥ 120 min) according to the standard temperature-time curve (ETK) in accordance with DIN EN 1363-1:2020-05 for the verification of the fire resistance (test report MPA Dresden No. 20210555).

1

The plastic pipes were routed through a bulkhead made of Vatral® SPM with a lining of Vatral® SPS pipe shells. All other pipes were routed through the wall with and without cladding made of Vatral® SPM mortar (CI and CS). All pipes were closed on the fire side with Vatral® SPM mortar (C/U). Residual gaps were filled with Vatral® SPM mortar.

1
All pipe penetration seals as well as the empty bulkhead met the requirements for F120.
